The Moments of Our Lives is made by Marshall Goodman ("we"). This policy says what the app collects, why, who else sees it, and how long we keep it.

WHAT YOU GIVE US, AND WHY

  • Your telling: the recording of your voice and the words written out from it. Your voice is your film's soundtrack, as you recorded it, unless you choose a narrator; it is never cloned. The words are written out on your phone; no speech service hears your recording.
  • Your pictures of the place: the photographs or map screenshots you choose to add. They guide the painter so the place in the paintings looks like the place you remember.
  • Your pictures of people, if you choose to add them: a photograph of someone as they were then, or as they are now. The painter uses it as a reference so the person in the paintings is recognisably them. A painting is never a copy of a photograph, and a photograph of a face is never shown in your film. If you add no photograph, people are painted from your description alone.
  • Your answers and notes: your answers to the producer's questions, your corrections to the case file, and what you write under a picture.
  • Your choices: the occasion, the producer, the painting look and the music you chose, and the title and name you typed for the film.
  • A film you bring back: to extend a film or add one more thing to it, you upload the film we made for you earlier. We take still frames from it and read its soundtrack on our own server (no speech service hears it) so the new chapter has the same people and the same look. The brought film is kept with the new chapter and deleted with it.
  • Your Apple sign-in: Sign in with Apple gives us an anonymous account number. We do not receive your email unless you choose to share it.
  • Your purchases: Apple tells us what you bought so we can make your film or write your gift code. We never see your payment details.

WHAT STAYS ON YOUR PHONE

Your telling and its words, your pictures and everything you type stay on your phone until you raise the curtain. A film you start and do not send is kept only on your phone.

WHO ELSE SEES IT

To make your film, parts of your material are sent to the services that do the work: Anthropic (reading your telling and the frames of a film you bring back, writing the producers' pitches, the case file and the questions, checking the pictures), OpenAI (painting pictures from your words, your pictures of the place and any photographs of people you gave us) and Google (painting, when OpenAI is unavailable, and, if you choose a narrator, reading your approved script aloud in an AI voice). They process it to make your film and, under their business terms, do not use it to train their models. Your files are stored on our server (Fly.io, in the United States) while your film is being made and for the 30 days after. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or tracking.

GIFTS

When you buy a gift, we keep the code, who bought it and whether it has been used, so you can send it again and so it opens one film, once. The person who uses it is not told who you are unless you tell them.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

We are not the keeper of your films; you are. Your film, its pictures, your telling, your photographs and everything else made for the film are deleted from our server 30 days after the film is delivered, or 30 days after it was begun if it was never finished. Save your film to your phone from the premiere page before then. To extend a film later, you bring your saved copy back to us.

You can delete everything sooner: in Account, tap "Delete my account and every film", or write to us, and your films and everything you gave us are deleted from our server at once, and in every case within 30 days. Purchase records Apple's refund process needs, gift codes, and a one-way fingerprint that limits misuse of the service, remain.

CHILDREN

The Moments of Our Lives is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them. A memory may of course include children; they are painted from your words and from any photograph you, their family, choose to give us.

CHANGES

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes.
